Another week down in marathon training!
Saturday - 6 mile run. I had a hard time getting out of bed in the morning. I wanted to be up and out the door by 5:30 AM. It was closer to 6:30 before I was out the door. Once I got going, it was a great run.
Sunday - 12 mile long run. It was hard getting up and out the door again. But, by 6:30 AM, I was on my way. I didn't really have a plan where I was going to go so I just started running and ventured down some new roads. I wound up on a few dead ends, but overall it was a great route. Lots of shady areas, lots of corn fields and virtually no traffic.
I tried my first GU ever on this run! I'm trying to experiment with what will work for me. I had a chocolate one. It wasn't bad, actually tasted pretty good and I didn't get sick or anything. I bought a few different things to experiment with on the long runs. For some reason the gels still sort of freak me out. I think it's because I've been trying to eat somewhat healthy and eating some sort of artificial gel concoction (that just tasted like chocolate frosting out of a can) doesn't seem like it should be healthy for you! But, I'll keep experimenting and maybe I'll get over that feeling! It's not like I have a problem treating myself to packaged/processed stuff from time to time when I get cravings. :-)
I think this run took it out of me. I haven't been sore or anything, I was just really, really tired the rest of the day and barely wanted to get off the couch. I had a picnic I needed to go to in the afternoon. I really wanted to blow off but felt I needed to go. Once I got myself going again, I was OK but I went to bed really early again last night to try to catch up on some sleep. I need to make sure I'm staying rested on the weekends and not trying to pack too much into them with all the extra running!
I also ran 12 miles and was pretty drained. I really just wanted to lay on the couch all afternoon but I forced myself to run some errands since I knew I wouldn't be home the next 2 weekends.
ReplyDeleteAnd I was hungry ALL DAY.
Love me some chocolate GU! For some reason I can't stomach the fruity flavors, so I stick to vanilla, chocolate, and espresso. I psyche myself into thinking I'm having my morning coffee when I have the espresso at a race and it totally cheers me up!
ReplyDeleteChocolate GU is my fave, but I think that is bc I am scared to try some of the other flavors. I am with you on the artificial thing. I always try to eat natural-occuring-in-nature foods, but I guess you gotta do what you gotta do with marathon training.
ReplyDeleteGood job on your 12 miles! I am actually liking the gu - but I was like you where I wasn't sure about it. I would rather eat food for energy, but with all the tossing of my tummy the gu's seem to give enough energy without any issues. Keep up the good work on your morning runs. I know it's hard to get out the door that early, but SO much better to beat the heat.
ReplyDeleteHi Abbi,
ReplyDeleteI get the same way after a longer run...I just want to take a long nap when I get home:) Nice job on your runs this week!
I love the post Sunday long run nap!!! Love reading the training update too...
ReplyDeleteLove down time after a long run...too bad it's hard to come by! I'm messing with foods too...haven't tried Gu but I'm thinking it will happen next weekend!
ReplyDeleteNice weeked runs! Gotta love how 6:30a seems so "late"... :)
ReplyDeleteI looove gu. I never really thought about the ingredients, but I feel like they aren't that bad? (I need to look)
