Distance Dreamers Wednesday

Weekly Summary:

We're continuing to add new people, which is exciting. Even more exciting? There's starting to be a little overlap in the races people are doing. I was hoping that would happen!

Katie from Legally Fit Katie and Jen from Jen is Green are both doing the Mohawk Hudson Half, although they already know each other. Kellie from Running Rodeo and Linz from Destination 26.2 are both running in the Nike Women's Marathon. Ruth from Running It Off and Kelly from Maxi Fortend are both running the Monster Dash Half Marathon. Finally, both Allie from The Constant Pursuit and Meggan from Marathon Running Mama are both doing the Philadelphia Marathon.

This past week, several people ran races. Click the links for their race reports. Jen from Jen is Green ran a 10K, Becka from 50 Half Marathons in 50 States ran her latest (very tough) half marathon. Julie at Julie's Running Blog ran a 5K with her daughter and Kate from Run with Kate ran an 8 mile race!

The long runs are still increasing for lots of folks. Molly at I'm a Sleeper Baker tackled 19 miles, Olivia at Blissful Runner took on 18. Nicki from Nicki's Nook, Lisa at Lisa's Yarns and myself all tackled 17 this past weekend. Erika at Chasing my Monkeys One Mile at a Time took on 15 and Linz at Destination 26.2 conquered 14. Rene at The Amherst Shuffle is at a long run of 12 miles We're all getting there!

Aneta at Confessions of a Rambunctious Runner is back to running with no pain and feeling good. Heather's (The Crazy World of a Running Mom) few days off did the trick and she was able to run her 10 mile long run this past weekend. Raquel from Historiadora on the Run is also getting back to a running schedule after moving and returning from her honeymoon.

Caro at Calinchen Runs has the first week of marathon training completed and has some new shoes to start out week two of training. Chris from Evolving Through Running stayed on track with runs while on vaction. Jon from SwiCyclorun is still getting in some great training for his next triathlon (later this month) before shifting gears toward his marathon training. Ann at Sole Sisters is starting to feel a little nervous for her next approaching half, but I'm sure she'll be ready!

Make sure to wish Mindy at the Road to Becoming a Runner and Allie at The Constant Pursuit good luck at their races this weekend! Mindy is doing her next 5K and Allie is heading to her next half marathon!

  4. Great post! This is so awesome. Jen and I actually just met for the first time in real life this past Sunday- we met through Daily Mile. It's neat how the internet brings people together!

  5. I love reading this weekly recap!

My best running memory is from my half marathon last fall, seeing my friends waiting for me at the finish, I managed to find some extra energy to jump up and down and do a little dance across the finish line!

  6. Best memory – finishing my 1st marathon with my dad. He ran the race with me. This was long ago in 1981, but I remember it like yesterday. I’ve now done 122 marathons.
Worst memory – when a friend was hit and killed by a car skipping a traffic light while we were on a training run.

  7. Best race memory: My 1/2 marathon last fall when I PR'd. The race went super great and I Felt strong (although i was sick as a dog after, not sure if that was from over-doing it of if I caught a flu bug...)

Worst race memory: I ran a 1/2 in the spring of 2007 without training for it... I think I got cocky after my marathon in '06 and thought I coudl do anything. Stupid decision. It was a painful 13.1 miles and I HATE that if you google my name & dig through all the crap the comes up, that race time comes up.... not that anyone is really googling me & digging through old race times... but still...

  8. Best race mememory: Hitting my goal of running a sub 2-hour half. I was high from the adrenaline for 3 days straight :)

Congrats to everyone for a great training week!

  11. That's a lot of miles (and shoutouts!). My best running experience has to be finishing my first (and only) 1/2 marathon, but unfortunately my worst came about 30 minutes later when I puked in the car.

  13. Oh this is such a fun weekly series! I've never seen it before - I would LOVE to be a part of it as I train for my first marathon :)

My best race memory is definitely the half-marathon I ran last Fall where I big-time PR'ed!

My worst running memory is any run where I had shin pain. I HATED the feeling of my lungs/cardio system feeling good and I WANTED to run but I couldn't because of stupid shin pain!

  14. Hi Abbi,
I am loving the great recap of this week's Distance Dreamers races and training:)

Best racing memory for me...finishing the Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon and feeling fantastic! THis was just a few weeks after I was told to stop running by a GI specialist!

  15. Sounds like everyone had a fantastic week!

Best running memory: Running along the Indian Ocean in South Africa before the sunset. I got somewhat lost and was racing against the clock. After sunset, the hippos come out and you have to be careful because they are one of the most dangerous animals. I ended up taking a ride from a stranger back to where I was staying to be safe from a hippo attack. Besides the hitchhiking part, it was SUCH a beautiful run!
