First, I wanted to say thanks to everyone who commented on the last post and discussed their own crazy neighbors...definitely a few that made me laugh in there!
This morning, I couldn't get myself out of bed. I slept in longer than usual hitting the snooze button and skipped my morning workout (non-run). Once I finally got up, I still felt like crap. My legs are sore and I felt like I was going to puke.
So, if you've been following along, you might be saying to yourself, isn't this girl planning on trying to run a marathon in less than 2 weeks? Why in the world would it have been a tough weekend, it should be getting easier at this point.
The reason: Yard Work.
Yep, managed the shorter scheduled 12 miler with no problems (other than it taking me a while to feel warmed up and in the proper zone for a long run) and ended up with a speedy (for me) 4 miles on Sunday. Felt fine, no issues. Then it was time to tackle our pitiful, neglected yard that was full of weeds, dead annuals that needed pulled and a garden to wrap up for the season.
I feel fine now but still have some sore muscles but I know it's from the yard work and I know I'll feel fine tomorrow. It's funny to feel the difference in using some muscles in a different way...guess that was some good cross-training for the weekend. Oh, and the yard? While it looks much better, it still looks kind of pathetic.
Oh yeah, yard work definitely makes you sore. Rest up for your big race!
ReplyDeletehmmm ... what do the neighbors say about your "pitiful, neglected yard"?
ReplyDeleteWow, somebody writing from the United States with seasons! That's so cool - we have 4 in Canada! :)
Yard work can be VERY hard on the muscles! Good job listening to your body and taking this morning off!
ReplyDeleteThis happened to me once when I had to unclog the toilet. My quads were killing me the next day! Rest up, lady.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the Yard Work making you sore!! Yay for running a marathon in 3 weeks!!! You are tapering so totally okay for some rest!
ReplyDeleteI love working in the yard, until I get an hour into it. I alwasy do it on my rest day and then it feels like i never had a rest, because it takes so much out of me (4 hours min. just to mow).
ReplyDeletenice job on the training! I finished my first timed 5K yesterday, what a blast. Thanks for sharing inspiration here at HM!
ReplyDeleteMy yard is in the same situation. I can't tell where the bermudagrass is supposed to stop and the mulch is supposed to start anymore.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the 'cross-training'!
ReplyDeleteOh yes...much fun! I painted my kiddos bedroom and my arms feel like I've been lifting weights!!
ReplyDeleteYard work! UGH! It works muscles we all know we have but somehow we never work. LOL! Hope you loosen up!!
ReplyDeleteI think you did some excellent cross training this weekend!
ReplyDeleteI’ve learnt over the years to be careful with non-running activities just before important races. Yard work is definitely a good workout.
ReplyDeleteIm sure you were working muscles that usually are asleep especially with YARD WORK :) consider it a silent and grueling task of cross traing, and now you can mark that right off your list :) I wanna see a b4 and after pic of the yard! :)
ReplyDeleteDoing things like yard work are great because you get a work out but you can also see the fruits of your labor! It's kind of nice to feel sore once in awhile, too!
ReplyDeleteYard work always makes me sore too. I think it's because you use so many different muscles. It's definitely a good workout!
ReplyDeleteRaking leaves is my nemesis. Puts me out of commission for a few days with a sore back, arms, FOREarms... Pathetic really. So yes, totally counts!
ReplyDeleteI believe in my training plan it usually says something like "6 miles or one hour of yard work..."
ReplyDeleteoh your poor thing. i have SO totally done that, funny that we can run so many miles yet something like yardwork kicks our buts!
