I've been in a bit of a rut this week. Stressed out at work and in a bit of a post-marathon funk I believe. From what I gather, this is typical.
I'm not sure it's typical to fall completely off the wagon though. Doritos and applesauce for dinner? Sure, why not? Sleep in? Sure, there's no reason to get up early!
I have run twice and did one additional workout but I've purposely been trying to take it easy. When I do that, I seem to go completely out of control.
I like the structure of having each and every day planned out from the start at 5 AM.
But, it's Friday! I'll be making my weekend to-do list tonight and will also plan out next week. Even if I take it a bit easier than I had been, I can still plan out plenty of things to do, like tackling some of those household chores that have been neglected. Plus, I still have a goal to works towards. A vacation and half-marathon at the end of the month!
Best wishes to everyone racing this weekend!!
Sorry you are in a rut. From what I read, it is completly normal and to be expected. Most people say to plan your next goal but it sounds like you have that under control. Yay for vacation later this month!!!
ReplyDeleteSeems normal to me! Sometimes I get down on Friday night because I don't have something I HAVE to do. Enjoy some rest and then get planning;)
ReplyDeleteMe too! Post marathon blues:( I also have a half at the end of the month! We both just have to cheer up and go with the flow. We will be back to normal soon:) Have a great weekend Abbi!
ReplyDeleteSO funny that you posted this, because when I was walking to lunch today I was thinking about your marathon being over and wondering if you were going stir crazy/feeling lost because the goal was no longer in sight- having already been achieved, that is. Rest up girl, your body needs it!
ReplyDeleteSleeping in sounds HEAVENLY to me.
ReplyDeleteThey say that's pretty normal after a marathon. I've been slacking off on house chores coz of training! =D
ReplyDeleteHey, you just ran your first marathon! I think you are allowed a little rut, but sounds like you have a good plan for getting out of it! Your accomplishment was huge, don't forget to celebrate it!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I felt lost the week after my marathon, and felt very guilty for not running. Take it easy though, you do need a rest. So did you pick your next race yet?? : )
ReplyDeleteI think you're allowed a rut after running a marathon!
ReplyDeletei felt that way after my first half marathon in June and ended up signing up for my marathon the week after. it is hard to go from a training plan to not having a plan. you will get out of it. i think that it is supposed to take a couple of weeks to come back. i can't believe that your marathon was a week ago.
ReplyDeleteYeah, my week's been a mess too. Junk food all week. So let me tell you some weirdness. I suddenly got really skinny. What?! This happened after my last marathon, too - the week after I dropped so much weight my clothes were too big. Today I found myself in the same predicament. Any idea what's going on here?! It feels like 5 - 10 lbs and that's just uncalled for.
ReplyDeletei definitely think it's normal, but a few more days and you'll be back to some structured running/life. just remember - you can't jump straight back to the mileage you did pre-marathon! good way to 'burnout' (and that is no fun! trust me!)
ReplyDeletetry to get back on eating well - at least you'll feel good from that until you can get everything else back to feeling 'normal'!
Doritios and apple sauce? I knew there was a secret runner meal no one would share with me. Get some rest and enjoy a zero week, a mental break will help avoid that burnout.
ReplyDeleteYou know I just felt this way after my first half! I think it's normal to experience it. I'm two weeks past now, and this week was much better. It will pass. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat worked for me was getting together to run with friends. It pulled me out of my slump and got me back on track.
You've got it--totally normal behavior! I think our minds need that break after a marathon as much as our bodies. You'll know when to get back into real training.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Relax and enjoy the "lazy" time. You'll be back to normal running soon. You deserve (and need) the break.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely normal to feel like you're in a bit of a funk after such a major milestone! I recommend springing for a massage or a spa day or something that will break up the rut.
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling much spunkier soon:) (Is that even a word??)
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see how I do after this marathon. Last time around, I barely ran after the marathon as I was so burnt out, but i feel less burnt out this time around. I do plan on taking a couple of days off and then will prob go on a recovery run on Wednesday maybe?
ReplyDeleteHope you are out of your rut soon!
