Total Miles Ran: 155
Number of those miles that involved me holding a dog and a leash: 37 (? - I thought this would've been higher even with my overall lower mileage).
Songs with the most airtime on my mp3 player: Gavin DeGraw - Sweeter, Karmin - Brokenhearted
Number of P90x or Jillian Michaels Workouts: 7
May was my lowest mileage of the year between recovering from the marathon in late April as well as the 50K in mid-May. I also ran a 5K with the dog.
I was faced with a big realization yesterday. Highlands Sky 40 mile is 2 weeks away. An e-mail came through about it. June 16th still sounded kind of far away until the e-mail said 2 weeks. I signed up for it Jan. 1 and every mile and race I've run so far this year has been with the plan to get ready for it. After it, I have no plans (until JFK 50). I'm still scared to death. I know it is not an easy race. Not that the others I've done so far have been easy but I think this is another level. The 50K's I've done tend to come with the labels 'accessible for first time ultra runners', etc. Highlands Sky doesn't come with those messages. No, it comes with the message of 'Highlands is a demanding course on varied terrain. It will try you and equally reward you.'
Guess we'll see what happens in 2 weeks!
Yeah, that sounds pretty intimidating. haha But you're a tough cookie! You'll survive. :)
ReplyDeleteCrazy how these races just sneak up. But you're going to do great, just relax and don't stress .. you can do it!!
ReplyDeleteYou had a strong month! I am impressed by the fact that 155 is a low mileage month for you! ;)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that upcoming 40 miler... Sounds challenging. But if anyone can do it, it's you!
Well, it may not say open to beginners, but you're not a beginner any more, right? I think you've got it!
ReplyDelete155 miles and 37 with pups is awesome! I'm excited to hear about your 40 miler in 2 weeks- it is getting me inspired to try an ultra distance :)
ReplyDeleteThat race looks awesome! 2K in the 2.5-3 miles. Love it...and I've done something similar. Just take your time and don't worry about your pace. You can make it up later when you can actually run. Try not to blow out your quads on that early descent too. :)
ReplyDeleteAt least it looks like you get it all out of the way early on and in two big climbs. I prefer dealing with a few monster climbs to being nickled and dimed to death with constant rolling hills.
We have one 40 miler here and I'm very curious to see what that distance feels like.
Thanks for the tips! Yeah, everyone else, the first 20 miles are the hardest. It isn't too bad after that...haha!
DeleteI always impressed with your mileage! Wow... a 40 miler... can't wait to see what you decide to do!
ReplyDeleteFor being your lowest monthly mileage month of the year you sure kicked some major ass!
ReplyDeleteI hate when races try to scare you like that! You'll be fine! And then it's time for JFK training - woo hoo! When do you begin?
ReplyDelete155 miles is a low mileage month? I think you are superwoman. Good luck on the 40 miler.
ReplyDeleteGreat running last month!
ReplyDeleteI think you will be fine and love the 40 miler. Who wants to run an "easy" ultra anyway?! Not us!!
I think the 40 miler is like any other race. If you haven't done it before, you get that nervousness beforehand. Once you are in the moment, it will be fine, demanding course or not.
ReplyDeleteI love how your lowest mileage week is the same as my highest mileage week (which was also May and was 157!)
Wow, 40miles!! That is a scary distance for me - but YOU can do it!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, it's amazing to see your distances getting longer and longer. I think that last line is key... it will try you and equally reward you. Just think about how awesome it will feel to have conquered the course when you reach the finish line.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe what an ultra runner you've become! No matter what happens you'll survive and it will be an experience I'm sure you won't regret. Good luck!
